Letters and Memorials of Jane Welsh Carlyle was originally prepared for publication by Thomas Carlyle and edited by James Anthony Froude. It was published by Longmans, Green, and Co. of London in 1883. This on-line edition, and its accompanying Reference Page and Contents are the work of John Phelan. The original collection of letters has been separated into several files for convenience of the on-line reader. Each of the original volumes has been split into 3 "rational" sections - the breaks occur at a new letter. A table of contents has been created, listing and linking to individual years and letters, and giving the addressee and date with links to the relevant letter. Some hopefully helpful background material has also been included. Neither the table of contents nor the additional reference material provided here appeared in the original publication.
