I have added a new Complete English translation of Petrarch's Canzoniere
to the Dante and Others site, to join the Introductory Selection of 53
poems previously uploaded...it is at:

Available for browsing or download (freely replicable for NON-COMMMERCIAL
purpos es) as usual
The 366 poems of the Canzoniere show Petrarch's miraculous ability to
take a relatively narrow range of imagery, and the theme of his love for
Laura, and display them in endless variations, mostly in the sonnet form
but also in sestinas and other longer poems. I've gone for accurate
un-rhymed translations as I think that gives the flavour of his Italian
and allows his thoughts to be presented logically. No other poet
demonstrated the power of the sonnet form so completely, and his influence
on Renaissance and later poetry (even modern poetry see Neruda's Cien
Sonetos) was profound.
Best Wishes
Tony
